Precious Minds Educational, Inc. is the home of the mindful learning dedicated to the improvement of social-emotional skills of pre-k through high school children in urban classroom settings by establishing social-emotional environment, curriculum, practices, and activities which supports students, parents, and teachers. Precious Minds is a group of skilled educational consultants with a targeted focus on creating social-emotional safe spaces, activities, practices, that meet the needs and serves as a support for students, parents, teachers and staff.
Precious Nicole Tyler, Founder
Precious Nicole Tyler, a south side native of Chicago raised by her grandparents, is an educator, entrepreneur, and community activist. As a youth Precious started going down the wrong path and getting in trouble. However, after crossing paths with different mentors family, friends and teachers helped her focus and get back on track. She decided to join City Year Chicago as a Corp member in 1999 after graduating high school. She committed 1 year of her life to completing 1500 hours of community service learning hours and worked on projects that sparked her love for education and working with young people. After City Year, Precious was motivated and wanted more from life and was determined to make a difference in her life, family, and her community. She went on to receive her Associate Degree in Early Childhood Education from Harold Washington Community College then she continued on to obtain her Bachelor’s Degree in Child Development and Family Studies from Northern Illinois University. Precious obtained her Master’s Degree in Urban Community & Curriculum Educational Studies at Northeastern Illinois University 2018.
The past 15 years Precious worked in the early childhood development field, she has worn many hats working as; a student teacher, teacher aid, summer counselor, youth worker/mentor, teacher, co–teacher, lead teacher, and master teacher. She has a focus in creating and improving developmentally appropriate curriculum, practical approaches, and lessons through study projects. Learning through Rough Play is a study she implemented in her classroom and through the success of that project she has built strong relationships with children, families, and her colleagues. Precious also has worked with the youth for 15+ years through volunteering and collaborating with many community organizations that advocate for youth. In 2013, she and a group of friends starting pushing peace restoring our village as a resource to help youth curb the violence in Chicago.
After years of teaching, studying, researching and working with children, youth, families and other teachers, Precious saw a need for a mindful way of teaching. All of her experiences led her to create Precious Minds Educational Program, A mindful approach to education, which offers workshops, coaching mentoring, group activities for teachers, parents, and children and teaching Learning Through Rough Play and the Unruly Classroom. Precious is currently a CPS College & Career Coach . When she is not out in the community or educating, you can find her relaxing at the lake front reading, traveling, practicing her crochet hair skills, thrift shopping and most of all dancing and finding ways to enjoy the wonderful city of Chicago’s events and festivals. Precious is currently in the process of writing her first children book.
